Unfortunately I have had to post this a few hours earlier than Im meant to…be sure to check out all the other foodie pen pals blogs tomorrow!!
May has been the first month I have taken part in Foodie Pen Pals. Foodie Pen Pals is an ingenious idea originally thought up by Lindsey over at theleangreenbean and has been adopted by Carol Anne at thisisrocksalt over on this side of the pond (the UK!).
The process is that if you sign up to foodie pen pals, you are allocated a match on the 5th of each month. After that, it is wise to get in touch with your match to check out whether they have any food allergies or dietary requirements etc. Your aim is by the 20th of each month to send a wonderful parcel packed full of foodie goods worth £10 to your foodie pen pal.
This month, my parcel was sent by Clare. Clare does not have a blog but is very active on twitter. Clare loves cake making, lives in Leeds but is originally from Ireland and her parcel really reflected this!
I was so very excited when the parcel was due to arrive so imagine my annoyance when Neil forgot to tell me Id had a delivery!!! He didn’t tell me until the next evening so my poor parcel had been sitting on a dining room chair for the last 24 hours!!
I was really pleased with the contents and could tell that Clare had put a lot of thought into each item.
There was….
A lovely handwritten card explaining each item and where it was from. I really liked the card as it had pictures of macaroons on the front…my latest addiction!!
Two Dairy Milk bars from Ireland. An original bar and a mint crisp bar. As Clare says, they have a different taste to the UK bars and were really yummy!
Butler’s chocolate containing Irish cream….so so yummy!!! I love Baileys so this was right up my street. Clare has said that there are a lot of Butler’s coffee shops in Dublin, I think I will have to visit them when I am over that way!!
Viennese biscuits and strawberry and cream fudge from Costellos bakery near Clare’s home in Leeds. I shared the biscuits with some colleagues from work and we all agreed that they were wonderfully buttery, they went down a treat!! I wasn’t sure if I would like the fudge but as soon as I tried it, I was addicted!! It is really delicious and you can definitely taste the strawberry. I am back on Slimming World at the moment but I am rationing myself to a piece of fudge each day as my sweet treat! I also really liked the packaging it came in, just like an old fashioned sweet jar.
Yorkshire crisps which I havent got around to trying yet but am really looking forward to them. I was born in Yorkshire so I am sure I will love them!
2 mini cake tins. The perfect size in which to bake some Slimming World cakes!!
Cupcake flag. These are adorable! I almost used them in Neil’s sister’s birthday cupcakes but must admit, I wanted to keep them for myself as they are just so cute.
Tea selection. Last but not least, everyone likes a good cup of tea and as Clare says, a cup of tea went perfectly with some of the sweet treats in the parcel.
I thoroughly enjoyed the parcel so a big thanks to Clare for all her thought and effort!
I am very sad to not be able to take part in Foodie Pen Pals next month as I am going into hospital very early tomorrow for a little operation so will be very much off my feet for the next two weeks. I will be back in July though and would urge any readers to sign up! Not only is it really nice to get a parcel each month, filled with treats especially for you, it is really good fun putting a parcel together (not to mention a bit challenging when sticking to the £10 price limit!!!).

Just signed up. What a fabulous idea!
Awesome!
Its a lot of fun, enjoy!
This is a lovely post, and a lovely parcel! Clare sent you some brilliant things, the Butler’s chocolate sounds divine.
It really really was…I was so lucky! Still enjoying the contents now! Thanks again Clare
